EV-1 Sensor Core
Evolution heading sensor for traditional steering systems.
The EV-1 is the sensor core for Evolution autopilots on boats with traditional hydraulic, mechanical or solenoid steering. It is a 9-axis sensor, meaning it tracks the boat's motion in three dimensions and monitors heading, pitch, roll and yaw. Raymarine states heading accuracy within 2 degrees, and the unit compensates automatically for magnetic fields onboard.
It is in a sealed housing rated IPX6 and IPX7 and can be mounted above or below deck. It connects to the control head and the control unit (ACU) over SeaTalkng. It is included in the standard Evolution packs; it is sold separately for upgrades or replacement. For drive-by-wire steering, the EV-2 is the matching sensor core.

EV-2 Sensor Core
Evolution heading sensor for vessels with drive-by-wire steering.
The EV-2 is the sensor core for Evolution autopilots on boats with drive-by-wire steering, where the helm is electronic. Like the EV-1 it is a 9-axis sensor that monitors heading, pitch, roll and yaw, with heading accuracy within 2 degrees and automatic compensation for magnetic fields onboard.
It differs in that it communicates with the boat's digital steering system over CAN bus, so the autopilot can steer without a separate drive unit. It is in a sealed housing rated IPX6 and IPX7 and can be mounted above or below deck, with a SeaTalkng link to the control head. It is part of the EV-DBW packs and is sold separately for upgrades. Boats with traditional steering use the EV-1 instead.
EV-1 goes with traditional steering systems; EV-2 goes with drive-by-wire.
Commissioned on the water
Dockside setup, then a sea trial to calibrate the compass and tune the steering response. It is signed off working, on the water.
